Some seasons are just hard. A diagnosis, a loss, a fear that won't quiet down at night. In those stretches, you don't always have words of your own, and you don't have to. The Bible is full of Scripture written by people who were afraid, grieving, and worn down, and it still speaks. Here are comforting Bible verses gathered by what you might be walking through, so you can find the right one fast.
When you're anxious or afraid
Fear tends to shrink the world down to the thing you're dreading. These verses widen it back out to the God who is with you in it.
- Philippians 4:6-7: "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
- Isaiah 41:10: "So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you."
- 1 Peter 5:7: "Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you."
- Psalm 56:3: "When I am afraid, I put my trust in you."

When you're grieving a loss
Grief is love with nowhere to go. Scripture does not rush it or tidy it up. It sits with you in it and promises the story isn't over.
- Psalm 34:18: "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit."

- Matthew 11:28: "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest."

When you need hope for tomorrow

How to actually use these verses
A verse skimmed and forgotten does little. A verse leaned on can carry you. A few simple ways to let Scripture do its work:
- Pick one, not twenty. Choose the single verse that lands closest to where you are, and stay with it for a few days.
- Pray it back. Turn the verse into your own prayer. "God, you say you're close to the brokenhearted, please be close to me tonight."
- Write it where you'll see it. A card on the mirror, a note on your phone's lock screen, a sticky note by the sink.
- Memorize one. The verse you know by heart is the one that's there at 3 a.m., when you can't reach for a book.
